Does it help to put "others" on your common app? And is it significant?

Just tell the truth. Your name or parents’ names/backgrounds will probably give away your ethnicity even if you mark “others.” Also, it will not be significant since admissions will most likely find out that you’ve been lying to them about who you are and will frown upon that. I don’t think you have to state your ethnicity for Common App anyways, so just don’t mark anything if you want to hide it.

I’m pretty sure being Bengali is classified as other though. I’m not trying to lie, just asking if it had any significance.

Ohh sorry for making assumptions haha. Bengali should be under Asian; after you mark Asian, there is another option to specify exactly what kind you are (e.g. Indian, Chinese, etc.).
