I’ve read from a lot of the posts on here that kids from bc tend to hang out in groups of people of their same race. I was just wondering if that’s completely the individual’s choice or are their factors in the community that prevent someone from being friends with people of a different race? As in, if I’m Asian, does that make it harder for me to be friends with white, black, or Hispanic people at bc?

Mostly the individual’s choice. BC students are human, and it’s a human tendency to want to hang out with people that are similar to you. This isn’t even really unique to BC because it happens at every school in the country. You decide who you want to be friends with and which organizations you want to get involved with. For example, if you decide to join the Korean Students Association and this is your main activity, then most of the friends you make through your activity will most likely be Korean/Asian.

BC has a great organization called FACES which is described as the “anti-racist organization” but has a great First Year program where they basically discuss all issues regarding race and it is a very diverse group of people, if you’re interested in that.

You can be friends with anyone you want. Simple as that.
