OK, so I'm pretty mixed for my race. My mom is half african-american and half indonesian, and my father is half-indian and half brazilian. But I have blue eyes and red hair. So I honestly don't know what to put, because if I indicated that I'm black, it would look like I'm lying.

How about multi-racial? I think there’s a box you can check for that, isn’t there?

You click all that apply - which means you select african american, asian and hispanic (the subsection of that, don’t remember what it is phrased as)

but i want to have the advantage of being a quarter african american. Would that be better than multi-racial? And my mom and dad were both born in Australia, so I’m overwhelmingly perplexed!

Don’t select African American alone - select African American and Hispanic then (because if they meet you and find you aren’t fully black, you will have a bit of a problem) - leave out the Asian part (that is the only thing that will be a disadvantage). :)

You can check whatever you would like.

Yes, Avoid Asian designation. Asian is “Over-represented” Race in colleges. As an asain myself, I know the predicament.

I don’t think people of Brazilian ancestry usually qualify as Hispanic. I’d go with African American and “other” if they have that option.

You should check out the AA and Hispanic Students subforums, there’s a lot of good information and well informed members there. For instance, on the Hispanic students forum, you would find out that the definition of Hispanic varies and that Brazilians aren’t considered Hispanic on the CA, but they are for the National Hispanic Recognition Program, which is based on PSAT scores and gpa. Read the sticky threads on that subforum for further information and opportunities.

most important thing: don’t lie. don’t put anything you don’t think is absolutely true.
