Race vs. Ethnicity vs. Nationality = confusing in college admissions?

How exactly do these three things affect college admissions in terms of colleges looking at you and the like. I've had 2 counselors tell me very seperate stories regarding my situation when prompted, with one telling me that colleges look for ethnic diversity and the other only racial. (in my case, I am caucasion, born in Russia, lived there for early childhood, travel there during summers, fluent, and 100% russian in all. how would the application process and my chances (etc.) be affected by this?).

Not much in your case. Racial is the main thing. They might find you slightly more interesting than the average white American.

Yeah, they are probably more concerned with racial diversity. I believe it would only make a difference if you were an international student from Russia which would served to add more geographic diversity to the school.
