Students say the University of Mississippi needs to mount a more aggressive stand against bigotry after two men placed a noose around a statue of the school’s first black student.

How do you mount an “aggressive stand” against a state of mind? You can’t force people not to be bigoted. The statue was – well, apparently they’re not calling it vandalism because it wasn’t actually damaged, it just had things hung on it – anyway it was done in the middle of the night and no one saw them do it. It’s not as though the university approved of it. I have no doubt that it was done by some kids who thought it would be funny because they knew that people would go bonkers over it.

Ironically, people who go around publicizing the incident may actually be encouraging more of the same.

do they even know if it was students who did this? If not, then how is the school in anyway to blame?

even if they know it was students, can you tell me the name of a school in the north, midwest or west coast that doesn’t have a few nutty racists on campus???

My understanding is that they have accused three freshman frat boys from Georgia and expelled them. They also shut down the local branch of the frat. Can’t crack down much harder than that, other than administering some kind of corporal punishment. : )
