What a shame…and potentially preventable? Maybe.

Seattle canceled its NYE at the Needle. This is the third year in the row there will be no fireworks, just a virtual light show (pretty lame, lol).
Wondering if NYE in Times Square will still happen…
Their website is still showing that they will be shooting off actual fireworks to incorporate into their virtual show, just no in person event to go with it. I told son he should set up his laptop at the window and watch real and virtual side-by-side.
Holding my breath – I have tickets for a Broadway matinee for January 5. Not optimistic.
As with Radio City and many restaurant closings, Broadway cancellations have been mostly due to cast/employees/crew testing positive.
Broadway show casts are tested three times a week…and the crews…and the musicians. The musicians who can wear masks when playing. Apparently at Radio City…no testing…no masks…basically no precautions.
So…hopefully your Jan 5 show will be a happening.
SNL is going audience-less:

My son is a writer there and it has been chaos all week with many cast members testing positive. They have to be fully vaxxed and are tested every time they enter 30 Rock. At least they have a long break now. I just hope my son’s test comes back negative and he comes home this week.
The things that I’ve heard are cancelled here are Avs (NHL) games for a week, CSU basketball game, a stage show because the lead actor and several crew members have covid (holiday show, so cancelled and not postponed). I expect more and more things this week even though cases are decreasing here, not increasing.
Was going to a Broadway show today that was canceled. We booked so optimistically back in spring when they announced reopening. Sigh. I just got a refund; I see no point in rescheduling.
I’m very disappointed that Rice has closed its campus because my dad and I had an appointment at the library tomorrow to look at a collection of my family’s papers. The librarian knows I live a long distance away, so she said she will scan and email the documents for me when the library reopens. But just ugh.
I was also supposed to get together with an ex-CC poster, aibarr, but someone in her office just tested positive so she had to cancel our meeting. Bleeping COVID.
Tell aibarr hi from me!
I will! It’s been fun keeping up with her since she’s a structural engineer like I am. She’s doing well. She is going to speak at an engineering forensics seminar at UT that my dad is hosting in February (after I told him he should invite her). My husband and I will attend virtually.
