Hi! I’m a high school sophomore and I scored a 1230 on my PSAT 10 test in the fall. :(The qualifying score for National Merit is a 1480+ in my state (TX). So I’m wondering is it possible to raise the score from 1230 to at least 1480? If so, how should I study for it? Thank you so much!!
Definitely possible! Study for the PSAT the same way you would study for the SAT - khan academy and test prep books. The best way I found was to take full length practice tests, than go through what I got wrong, understand why I got it wrong. Do practice problems, and then a few weeks later take another practice test.
What is your PSAT Math score and EBRW score. Try to study lower scores twice as much. My D added 50 points more on EBRW from Sophomore to Jr. Good Luck. Gig’em.
It will be really difficult. Mine raised 140 points from sophomore to junior PSAT and I had help. I would say start prepping now. It will not only help your PSAT, but your SAT as well. National Merit doesn’t end up being as important as it seems, but your real test scores will be. My last piece of advise is start testing early in your Junior year. That way if you keep wanting to improve it, you will still have enough time. I have seen very stressed seniors taking it after their applications were already due, and sending them sight unseen because they are scared about getting them in on time. Winter of junior year is perfect time to start taking real SATs. P.S. if you have prepared a lot for National Merit, you may be one and done for standardized testing!
Thank you!!
Thank you!!
And Yayy Aggies!!
Thank you!!
its possible, i got a 1080 sophmore, and 1400 11th. Then again, CA is 2 competitive.
Also, my friend got a 1280, and by studying for SAT, he eventually got 1510 on PSAT.
good luck
Thank you!!
Hi! I actually raised my PSAT score 200 points to around a 1500 this year to qualify for national merit (I am a junior) - my best advice would be TAKE TONS OF SAT PRACTICE TESTS.
Get exposed to as many questions as you can. Often, SAT uses the same question format which helped me enormously. Also, try Khan Academy
Hope that helped!
Thank you!! That’s super helpful!!
