Raising SAT Score 300 Points?

Hey, I’m a rising junior and I was wondering if it would be possible to raise my SAT score ~300 points in 3 months of studying (I want to take the early December test). My baseline score with no prior studying is a 1280. Knowing that, do you think it’s possible to raise my score to the mid to high 1500s with 3 months of self-studying?

Hey feather754!

It is possible but you will have to put in a lot of effort. i started out two months ago with 1250 on my diagnostic test and have 1440 on my latest practice test. I could have had a better score if i had not been careless about my study schedule. I took a test prep for the first month of my preparation. Although you could it do on your own too. And from the second month, i started taking a practice test every weekend and then worked over my weaknesses for the rest of the week. I hope to get a 1500+ but my reading section is way too bad. Anyways, Peace!!

300 points is a very big increase. I would have to say that is probably a reach but with practice anything is possible. Is your baseline a real test or practice?

I think it’s totally possible to raise that score by 200 points, if you cover all the fundamentals (such as grammar rules for writing and math rules for math, things that you shouldn’t get wrong because there’s only one clear answer). To raise that score by 300 points, you’d have to put in a lot of effort–or a little effort, depending on how fast you can catch on to the SAT’s question patterns–and go beyond the fundamentals.
