Sitting here at the Clemson baseball game; every time they play “Blister in the Sun” by the Violent Femmes on the ORGAN I feel old. This former post punk/New Wave girl just can’t; DH says I’m now elevator music old what funny little things make you feel old?
Young people.
When I take a selfie for Be Real.
When I am in sticker shock for prices of just about anything.
Don’t feel too bad; I just had to Google what Be Real was
When I talk with co-workers (or catch up with others) about what their kids are doing and they’re years into typical (adult) jobs instead of being the cute youngsters they once were. The next generation is truly running so much of the world now.
I just realized when talking to a friend this week that S and his HS peers are nearing the end of their prime reproductive years. Those who haven’t yet had kids, probably won’t in future. He will be 39 this year. His wife is a bit younger.
Watching Jeopardy and realizing I know some of the answers (questions) just because I’m older than the contestants. The things they miss sometimes are surprising!
In just the last couple of days, I’ve discovered that “social” is short for social media.
As in “Her social didn’t say anything about the fact that she was at the party until 4 a.m.”
I probably didn’t use it correctly there, anyway.
I still speak in 1985
My knees. But that’s not funny, is it.
When I wake up in the morning and have an unexplained bruise or pain. I mean, I was just sleeping! More of a head scratcher than a funny.
I agree. Similarly, there are categories that I know right off the bat I will nod do well with, because I am old. Example: Rap Lyrics Read by Alex/Ken, or Social Media Influencers, etc.
I hate the band categories!
What is it?
We record Jeopardy! and are way behind in our viewing. Whatever episode we watched the other night had a category of, “Classic Albums.” My dh was so excited because he’s pretty broad in that. Except that they were albums from the late 90’s/early 00’s rather than the late 70’s/early 80’s. “Those aren’t classic,” his Boomer self grumbled in righteous indignation.
It’s some sort of social media app where you get a random notification at different times of the day and you are supposed to post a picture of yourself or what you’re currently doing (I’m not exactly sure what one is supposed to post). The idea is that it is spontaneous and not contrived/curated for social media (as is so common on many of the platforms - especially Insta).
I think there is some shaming involved if you are tardy in posting?
Clearly, I don’t have it so know precious little about it.
Recently at a grocery store there was a police officer there in line. The officer turned to the love of my life and asked “aren’t you X’s dad?” my love replied “yes I am” the officer said, “I remember when you came to our 8th grade class and talked about your career” - yep, that’ll make you feel old! (for the record, that talk was 21 years ago!)
Is there anything that DOESN’T make me feel old?
My GS and GD have one of those big wooden play structures. Yesterday, GS had a play date, so I was GD’s playmate.
“Nana, let’s go up to the top and pretend we’re pirates.” She takes off up the climbing wall side. “Come on, Nana!”
“Oh, honey, Nana has to go over and use the ladder.” It was definitely more work than it was last summer.
Within three minutes, she was going down the slide yelling, “Nana, let’s play hide and seek!”
After about an hour, feeling quite old, I offered her a snack and screen time.
Lol, I’d have thought the fact that you have '92 in your name means you’re getting old.
You’re either born in 1992 which was 30 years ago or you graduated in 1992 which is a decade before most people on this forum were even around (parent cafe aside).
