Actually, the more you refinish, the more you’re taking of the top layer of wood. Eventually (IIRC, it’s not much,) you simply can’t refinish again.
Some recommended to us that after the first major refinish, we could go with “screening” and a “buff” job. That uses a lighter tool and mostly scratches the surface of the current coat, enough to hold a new coat. Ask about it. And it’s a lot less $$.
I need some advice on a microneedling roller. I have read that the titanium ones are “better” but have a good friend that says she has both and likes that one less. I am naturally fair, and I am thinking a 1.0. Any suggestions? They are very inexpensive but would still like input before I order one.
My daughter received a gift sent to her straight from the vendor. It included a note that said “Congratulations! Love” with not name. The packing slip does not have a name on it either. It is not off of a registry of any sort.
I have asked all of the closest family members and no one is claiming to have sent it.
What are other ideas to figure out who sent it so that she can send a proper thank you?
^^Can she call the vendor and ask? And if the vendor doesn’t know because, I’m guessing, it was ordered through a different company, perhaps the vendor will let your D know the name of the company that took the original order and she can contact them.
Rokymn, I just bought an order from Zunni to back up my super expensive ones. They are now my favorite pair. I am going to order a few more pair soon. I have a stigmatism and go through hell trying to get them right. First pair and they are just great.
My DH was mentioning this; and thought I’d see what others think here.
he’s promoted an engineer (50+) to work in the plant; she’s coming from the office.
She’s well liked; smart, sharp; but basically stuck in the 90s. She wears a dress every day; she’s supervisor to a mechanical, messy plant where most people wear uniforms, and get dirty and smelly. He’s torn on mentioning something to her, as there’s a little bit of a disconnect. Any thoughts?
I think giving attire advice, absent a company dress code, from a boss to a subordinate, especially male to female, can be a can of worms. If it’s not affecting her performance, leave it alone. If she’s just transitioned from an office setting to a more casual, messy plant situation, it’s likely she’ll modify her attire in time.
Some people just feel more comfortable dressed up. I don’t personally get it because I’m all for casual, comfy myself.
Some women ARE stuck in the 80s and 90s, when Dress for Success (or whatever it was) told us we had to wear dresses or plain suits with cute little scarves. No, not required today. Especially when the boss says so and IS promoting a woman from within.
I’d bring it up. She may just be comfortable in dresses. But working with the plant, she may need to ease up. It’s a 2 way street.
The challenge is how to bring it up. Maybe, “Did you know we have a (much) looser dress code here in the plant and the team will be comfortable if you meet them part way” is a starter. Wonder what others think.
Unless she violates the dress code, can’t, don’t, shouldn’t say anything to her! I am sure she knows the dress code, I am sure she sees other dressed. If she is stuck then she is stuck. As long as it doesn’t impact her performance, and it shouldn’t anyway, I am sorry @bgbg4us but your husband will have to deal and get over it.
Is a dress inappropriate for a plant floor based on the work she’ll be doing? Is she going to be crawling around looking at dirty machines? Is it a safety issue?
I don’t see any harm in saying “as you know the plant is a messy, dirty place. Feel free to wear work clothes, you don’t have to dress up if you don’t want to. Your call.”
Footwear is an issue as well, cute strappy shoes or heels have no place in a plant. She probably won’t want to wear steel-toed boots with a dress.
First time she gets grease on a dress, I predict this problem will self-correct.
Seems like if she knows and/or sees the kind of environment in advance, along with any safety-related dress codes that apply to the plant (safety glasses, hard hats, steel toe boots, safety vests, etc.), she should be able to figure out how to dress for that environment.
In the really random questions category, WHY do vitamin C caplets have to be so huge? And rough? I nearly gag when I take them. Now I am having anticipatory gagging.
in regards to the dresses: the disconnect comes in when the plant workers have said a few comments; not in any suggestive, but rather that the supervisor can not be actively involved in their work, and might think she’s not completely interested with how she dresses. She is a true professional with high standards. I think DH is going to just see how it unfolds over the next few months.
@VeryHappy – When we looked into refinishing our floors the cost was far beyond what we wanted to spend (not to mention the furniture and mess). The floors were looking really dingy and worn in spots.
My H got Weiman Hardwood Cleaner and then used their high traffic Hardwood Polish and Restorer. He’s going to put another coat on soon. I feel like I’ve got new floors–they look shiny and new. I would never have thought it would make such a difference. We have one spot in our kitchen that still looks worn but the floor restorer made a huge difference even as bad as that spot was.
I try to stay away from anything with sugar though. But my doc told me to take vit C for the foreseeable future (I had several severe colds right before COVID kicked in), so I might be willing to go the gummy route if available in sugar free.
