Random Questions

Yes, that’s challenging. H and now S, as federal employees are also subject to random drug screens, so wouldn’t have been able to use any form of any drug that would be banned. Fortunately, S doesn’t have chronic pain. I wonder if even topic use would show up in testing (e.g. THC ointment or cream). It’s not worth risking a job, but unfortunate that this whole category is unavailable to folks who have random drug screens.

We aren’t talking pain control.
We are talking about side effects of pain control right now. The main one being constipation.

We need a new thread other than “random” to gather some thoughts.
Start one. It IS worth exploring on a lot of levels.

Back to kitty cats and chasing string!

If THC becomes more accepted (as it should!) for medical reasons, I think employers’ policies will need to change as well to accommodate it. Considering how minor it is vs. even many prescription drugs, something has to change IMO.

Maybe an admin, @MaineLonghorn or @skieurope can break this discussion out into its own, worthy thread.

For constipation relief try eating dates.

What would the new thread be? Pain relief discussion? (I work for the VA and they are working hard on this issue for obvious reasons.)

@worth2try - I just discovered that a pumice stone lifts cat hair like no tomorrow! I have a tweedy kind of chair and it worked wonders on it.

I just use a damp rag to wipe the hair off the tweedy fabrics.

So if the average shoe size is an 8.5 to 9, why do shoe companies make few shoes in 9.5 and almost none in 10.5? Are there not as many women with feet larger than average verses smaller?

Ha ha. Finding 5.5 shoes in a store is next to impossible.

@mom2and:
For the same reason that despite the fact that something like 40% of women are size 14 and above, the clothing industry is still based on a model where that is considered “specialty clothing”, and a place like Anne Taylor can consider a size 10 “extra large”, women’s feet have gotten larger over time, but the industry still lives in the 1920’s or something.

I have larger than average feet and it has gotten much easier to find shoes than it was back in the 70s, 80s, 90s. I think it is changing.

Whoa! A 10 is an extra large?? Not going into Ann Taylor. Dont need store shaming!!

musicparent - have you personally shopped at Ann Taylor lately? :wink:

@bunsenburner:
Nope, but my wife has, and she pointed out what they considered “extra large” was a 10 last time she happened to wander in the store, and I believe they proudly announced the fact from what I recall her saying. Remember, this is still an industry that holds size 0 to be some sort of ‘norm’, so that shouldn’t be that big a surprise. Like I said, when 40% of the people out there are size 14 and above, the attitude of clothing retailers makes no sense.

*note: I just looked at their website, and they show sizes up to 18, which means they have changed a great deal from the last time my wife looked, which was several years ago. I am glad, means someone there woke up and realized fashion models are not the norm in society.

Here’s Ann Taylor’s size guide. A size 10 is a medium.

^It sounds like you need to start a new thread, musicparent, if you want to debate that subject. This thread is a wrong forum for that. That said, AT sizes their clothes quite generously and it has a good selection for all shapes and sizes. Who cares what the label says if the piece fits like a glove? :slight_smile:

I follow @coralbrook flip threads and it brought up something I’m curious about. The use of a hood and exhaust fan over the cooktop. I have a gas cooktop with a big stainless hood over it. I rarely turn on the exhaust fan, I hate the noise. I only use it when I’m frying something in a lot of oil. For example I’ll use it if I’m making latkes but I won’t if I’m just going to sauté onions.
When do you use the exhaust fan and is there a reason to use it each time I cook?

I’m like you, @mom60. I dislike the noise so only use it when I really have to. Often times, it is when I am roasting or broiling at very high temps. I hate frying (the mess!) and only do it every few years.

I think AT sizes generously. I don’t think there x large is a 10. I remember when stores sold S,m,l. A medium was an average size. How many stores start with an xx small and go to xxlarge.

I rarely use mine. I do not fry things, and steam from boiling helps to keep the indoor humidity up (the house is very air-tight, so the air can get quite dry).

Can you move the blower motor to a box outside the house? That will help with keeping the noise down.
