Rank these private schools (prestige/reputation)

I think post #13 by Alexandre has Hopkins too high. Should be:

GROUP I
Harvard University
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Princeton University
Stanford University
Yale University

GROUP II
Brown University
California Institute of Technology
Columbia University
Cornell University
Dartmouth College
Duke University
Northwestern University
University of Chicago
University of Pennsylvania

GROUP III
Carnegie Mellon University
Johns Hopkins University
Washington University-St Louis
+
Rice University
Tufts University
Vanderbilt University

This is totally subjective and TOTALLY comical. “I think post # 13 by Alexandre has Hopkins too high.” Really? According to what? They’re all incredible schools. What about Emory University? Notre Dame? All great schools. They’re all well-rounded schools – some are just better in particular areas than others. Ya know? Guarantee you if you get accepted to any one of these schools, the first reaction is to, oh, I don’t know – poop your pants with excitement?

UIUC’s net price calculator gave a higher net price than many other state flagships for a student from a $50,000 income family:

Based on what? Hopkins is a research juggernaut, has one of the top three hospitals in the country, has been donated over a billion dollars by an alumnus (Bloomberg,) and was considered by Stanford University, among others, to be a peer institution.

Hopkins has a much better claim to being part of group II than schools like Brown and Dartmouth do, imo.

Interesting. I know they tend to be more expensive than the other Illinois state schools, but they’re also the best of the Illinois state schools.

But, I’m an independent with a 0 EFC currently.

berkely is a really good school so is polytechnic

All subjective. To counter rhg3rd: I don’t think much of columbia, especially for engineering (it’s grossly overranked).

For engineering or CS. Added Berkeley as that’s were OP is going and a few other top schools:

GROUP I (alpha order within groups)

Berkeley
California Institute of Technology
Carnegie Mellon University
Cornell University
Harvey Mudd College
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Rice University
Stanford University
UIUC
University of Pennsylvania

GROUP II (alpha)

Columbia University
Duke University
Johns Hopkins University
Princeton University
Northwestern University
University of Chicago
Vanderbilt University
Washington University-St Louis

GROUP III (alpha)

Brown University
Dartmouth College
Harvard University (worst for enginering as non-ABET)
Tufts University
Yale University
