Does the ranking for graduate schools affect the difficulty of admission as it does for undergraduate?

For instance, Boston College is ranked 31 for undergraduate but it's ranked 41 for graduate in sociology (same as Washington State University)... does that mean it would be "easier" to get in?

No. Graduate “rankings” are even more meaningless than undergraduate ones. Ignore them. For graduate school, you have to get out of the stupid USNWR-worshipping mentality that pervades CC.

Talk to your professors. Get their thoughts on the right fit for you. Talk to professors at the schools you’re interested in. Find out how you’d fit into their programs.

fit is the most important factor for grad schools not, name recognition.

some grad schools you may not want to attend though if the department is not well known. my advisor advised me to stay away from one school that accepted me because the academic reputation was so poor.
