Ranking the Schools at NYU

Hey I know stern and tisch are 1 and 2 respectively, but what do you think of the others? Do you view certain majors in CAS such as phil, eco, and chem as prestigious? Also, how do stern and tisch kids generally view kids in CAS? Do they view them as inferiors etc?

Oh god why did you start this thread...sternman is gonna come in here and start stroking Stern School of Business! Oh well...I don't really think it's so easy to compare different schools within a college - like I wouldn't necessarily say Stern is "better" than Tisch, since there are a decent number of business schools that I would go to instead of Stern, but when it comes to the arts, Tisch is one of the few that excels in that area.

How do you rate CAS?

I'm pretty sure all schools at NYU are good, and like you said, Stern and Tisch stand out above the others. The Law School is exceptionally good as well, but undergrads don't hear as much a/b it. I think there's only one school at NYU that is considered "below" the rest of the university...and I'm pretty sure it's the "education" school. The one where future teachers go...I've heard some mean jokes a/b the difference in intelligence. But I might be wrong...just what I've heard. So CAS is a good school, as is NYU overall.

i would not rank the schools at nyu with each other. why? because each school plays to the individual strengths of the students that are in it. in regards to CAS majors, the philosophy department is one of the top in the nation, and the econ department gets high marks too. if you are an incoming freshman, i would not worry about what other people think of your school. people don't like or hate you based on what school you're in, but rather how you are as a person. nothing will change that. but to answer your question, no, kids in stern and tisch generally don't look down on people from other schools - most people could care less.

on a less serious but still important note, from the very nature of this post and your username, it seems like you're a prestige monger. it looks as if you're just trying to get into whatever has the more famous name, regardless of whether or not it fits you. if you're going/considering attending nyu, i suggest you change your attitude, otherwise you will quickly find yourself alone here.

the_nightboy hit the nail on the head. Ten point oh! :D

Get over the prestige-hound attitude. At best, it's naive - at worst, it makes you look ignorant.

There's no school that's really any better than the others. GSP has easily the most rigorous liberal arts curriculum of all the schools. Steinhardt's education program is strong, as well. (There's no point in mocking the intelligence of the people who are going to be teaching your children.) CAS, Stern, and Tisch are good at what they're known for being good at. That's all there is.
