How about the LACs... how would you rank the social life in the top 20 LACs?

supern3rd,
The social life of the LAC is very different vs that of the students at a national university like Stanford/Duke/Vanderbilt/Northwestern. By virtue of their size and ofttimes more remote locations, the top LACs have a less vibrant and varied social life. Having said that, LACs can fill the idyllic impression that some students have of college life and are much preferred to the experience that one gets at a larger university. The choice is really about personal fit and what you are looking for.

i resent the remark that UIC students are "average." I go there, got a 33 on the ACT, and graduated with a 5.6 in honors. I think UIC students are spectularly unique because of the diversity. it is fascinating to see all of the un-"average" students and their determination and neglect for any prejudice. everyonewho goes there is extrememly independent, using the city as a playground, and exhibiting their ability to live easily in the city on their own. and although it doesnt have the academic intensity of NU of U of C, students graduating with a degree from UIC are extremely valuable in the career world. Nearly 40% of all medical physicians (doctors, nurses, researchers, pharmacists) graduate with a degree from UIC. Within the next 4 years, it is said that a degree from UIC will be the most valuable in the city, second to U of C.
not only that- but city students are able to take advantage of opportunities in the city, not given by any other colleges. their are so many opportunities in chicago...internships, jobs, culture, education. its amazing. and UIC students are just as perfectly capable of taking advantage of these situations as more highly regarded universities.

^^show your evidence please. then i might not laugh at your claims that UIC students are better than NU students. i go to school in IL suburb and many of the kids going to UIC from my school would be described as average. just b/c you seem to be smart doesnt mean the rest at your school are (on average). i cant believe you really think this. better than NU! hahahaha

I think the point is that as a school, UIC is valuable in a way that isn't necessarily tied to the Ivy League-esque qualities of NU and U of C. I also think that the poster was literally talking about schools in the city of Chicago and not Evanston.

The city of Chicago itself also has DePaul and Loyola, both of which are in great locations and accessible to places all over the city. Both schools would be great options for students looking to experience a city and city living beyond what NU and U of C offer.

i know these are great schools but to say a UIC degree will be more valuable than a NU degree...someone had to say something.

um i never said it was better than NU. of course its not. NU isnt even in chicago...its evanston. and it depends on what degree you are analyzing. UIC is way better in the medical and research field, but NU is better in everything else. im just saying, UIC students arent all "average" most of them arent.

am i missing something?

"NU isnt even in chicago...its evanston."

Northwestern "University" is in Evanston AND Chicago....

So many people are putting Rice way too low. Have you visited there? Very places have a campus wetter than Rice.

how does nyu stern rank?

Seventeen magazine dubbed Rice as "the coolest school in the land" in 2002. Apparently they think we have a good social scene.

Playboy magazine, which ranks best parties, will from time to time include "NOD" at Rice in the top 10...and in my opinion NOD is only slightly better than many of our other parties.

There is a popular book that ranks schools in 3 areas; academics, social, and quality of life. I don't think I'm allowed to mention it here, but it's primarily a two word name. The first word is Fiske and the second word is Guide.

Its clearly Vanderbilt, to think it is any other school is just completely assonine. Plus, the people there are beautiful. Dartmouth isnt to bad either. I have been to Rice many times - not fun.

You clearly came on a weekday. Or you just have lame friends.

By misspelling "asinine" you make your pretentiousness clear.

i've heard rice is pretty fun
