Ranking the UCs

From the academics to the social life/ night life to the environment to the sport team, anything you can think of!

<p>how about adding the girls in as well :P</p>

<p>this is what i believe:</p>

<p>Best Sport Team = UCLA
Best Social Life = UCSD
Best Academics = UC-Berkeley</p>

<p>1) UC Berkeley= Hardest to get in to/ students study all the time
2)UCLA= probably equally as hard to get in to, but more parties and you're in Westwood- a very nice area close to Beverly Hills :)
3)UCSD= commuter-ish.. don't really count on the whole college experience there.
4) UCSB= Super party school, near the beach (a tad trashy at times.. not to sound judgemental or anything) but still very very very fun.
5)UCDavis= Up north, far away from LA, you don't really hear much about it.. it's kind of like they are their own secret little club up there. Nobody really knows what those kids are up to.
6) UCIrvine= Many of my Asain American friends have told me that it is very diverse and has a strong Asain community.
7) All the rest are pretty easy to get in to (give or take a few) but those are the most popular.
I'm from LA and lots of my friends go to many of these colleges. HOpe this helps!</p>

<p>UC Berkeley
UC Los Angeles
UC San Diego
UC Santa Barbara
UC Davis
UC Irvine
UC Riverside/UC Merced</p>

<p>sololoquy, i assume your ranking is base on academics?
and thanks guys, keep more opinions floatin in</p>

<p>Academics:

UCSB/UC Davis/UC Irvine
UC Santa Cruz
UC Riverside</p>

<p>Social life:
UCSB
UCLA
UC Davis
UC Irvine
UC Berkeley
UC Santa Cruz
UCSD
UC Riverside</p>

<p>Beauty of campus/location

<p>Physical attractiveness of student population:

don't know about the rest</p>

<p>Sports:
UC Berkeley
UCLA
UC Davis
don't know about the rest</p>

<p>by the way, this belongs here: <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=510%5B/url%5D"&gt;http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=510&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p>

<p>PS. All California girls are pretty hot :) I would go with UCLA ( my brother met his wife there).. but if you want to have a good time, UCSB (i hear) is the place to be.</p>

<p>Overall rankings according to US News:</p>

<p>1) UC Berkeley (#21)
2) UC Los Angeles (#25)
3) UC San Diego (#35)
4) UC Davis (#42)
5) UC Irvine (#43)
6) UC Santa Barbara (#45)
7) UC Santa Cruz (#74)
8) UC Riverside (#81)</p>

<p>My choices for Academics:</p>

<p>^Same as US News' Best College Rankings^</p>

<p>Social Life/Activity (based purely on stereotypes I hear--I am really in no position to judge): </p>

<p>1) UCSB
2) UCLA
3) UCSC
4) UCD
5) UCI
6) UCSD
7) UC Berkeley
8) UCR</p>

<p>Sport Team:</p>

<p>1) UCB
2) UCLA
3) UCD (In process of changing to Division 1, as I understand)
....</p>

<p>Ucsd
Ucla
Ucb
Uci
Ucsb
Ucr</p>

<p>I can't argue with a lot here bit I'll add that while UCSB has a beautiful location, building on the campus are totally ugly and run down and that UCB should be higher up for social life and UCI lower.</p>

<p>All you guys are wrong UC Merced is #1.
Just kidding.
1Berk;2LA;3SD;4Davis;5Sb;6I;7RiverS;8Merced</p>

<p>my sister went to UCSD and like someone else mentioned, its a really big commuter school. a lot of her friends went home on the weekends and a few decided to live at home after freshmen year. it meant that there weren't always a lot of people around the dorms on weekends.
i live within walking distance of ucla and my school is across the street so i know a lot about the campus. i think the location is great because its in a nice area of LA and close to everything and the social life is pretty great too.</p>

<p>Undergrad</p>

<p>Tier 1:
Berkeley, UCLA
Tier 2:
UCSD
Tier 3:
UCD UCSB UCI
Tier 4:
UCSC
Tier 5:
Riverside, UCM</p>

<p>It's hard to compare UC's in any one tier.</p>

<p>kellosnax: Your comment about UCD made me laugh. Not in a bad way, it's just that I can relate to that. I live about 15 minutes away from Davis, and I know a lot of people who goes/will go to UCD. Yet, I still don't know what they're up to. It's like they have a little cult that's cut off from any external communication.. Hahah. Okay, maybe not. It's still kind of funny. </p>

<p>As for the ranking.. I don't really know much about the southern UCs (besides UCLA and UCSD) to be able to do a ranking..</p>

<p>From my experience, judging from the kinds of kids at my high school who go to all these places:
UC Berkeley
UC Los Angeles
UC San Diego
UC Irvine
UC Santa Barbara
UC Riverside
UC Santa Cruz</p>

<p>From my experience, the ones that have been most selective:
UC Los Angeles
UC Berkeley
UC San Diego
UC Irvine
UC Santa Barbara
UC Davis
UC Riverside
UC Santa Cruz</p>

<p>What methods do people use to rank the UC's academically? I've always had the impression that UCLA and UCBerkeley were about the same, so what makes Berkeley more academically "distinguished"?</p>

<p>Just curious.</p>

<p>Cal is older and more widely known, that's why its looked at as being "better." Maybe it is and maybe it isn't, it really depends on the person, but because it is the original University of Califorina (hence the name Cal) it gets more credit.</p>
