Definitely. Only regret not using it for my first semester freshman year courses earlier. My friend and I signed up for a class, and later in the summer, she called me panicking about the professor’s absolutely horrible ratings on rmp, so we registered for a different class.
I also use my school’s official course evaluations website, and I take findings from rmp with a grain of salt. For spring 2012 classes, I used both websites extensively. Can’t wait to see how my courses and professors this semester are!

I definitely use it, but cautiously. I thought I was going to have an amazing professor for sociology my first semester, but wound up with a lady who was super popular because she liked to talk sex jokes and talk about being drunk. I loathed every minute of that class.

On the other hand, some of my favorite professors have had pretty miserable ratings on the site too. I like a challenge, and ultimately all three of the professors who wrote my recommendations for graduate school were quite low-rated.

I usually at least look up all my professors, though they aren’t always on there. I’ve found it to be fairly accurate for the most part. Ratings won’t make me change out a class though, even for a different professor, because I usually craft my schedule very carefully and I’m not usually willing to wake up earlier/have a later class just to get a better professor except in extreme cases.

It’s really important to actually read the comments. It’s also pretty obvious when a poor/lazy student complains about a teacher. One of my favorite professors this past semester had a terrible rating from like 200 or so people, but I got an “A” in his class. Wow, certain people really don’t try and just complain.

A lot of times, the low rating is a result of “the professor giving sooooooo much work!1111!!”. Isn’t that supposed to be expected in college?

I use the site a lot, because of scheduling conflicts I still often have to take a lackluster professor but at least I go into it prepared.

My music appreciation teacher had horrible reviews and according to myedu gave out 50% F’s and only 10% A’s… SO, I knew to immediately do my very best to impress right from day one and read the syllabus through repeatedly since she had a ludicrous amount of assignments and NO in class reminders.

Managed an A, but that wouldn’t have been possible if she’d caught me off guard.
