GPA: 3.857 unweighted, 5.3971 weighted, rank: 11/1066

How would you say these grades are? I am trying to be eligible for a likely letter for an Ivy League School (sport recruit)

Dude your grades are amazing! Out of 1066 students, your class rank is also great. Do you have any other extracurriculars or awards/honors, leader ship positions? It wouldn’t hurt to only have one EC, but I would say add a few more that demonstrate your passions. Otherwise, just keep doing great like this and you’ll have a good shot at getting into an Ivy League school.

I am in National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society (running for president), Mu Alpha Theta
For sport, I race sailboats competitively at an international level. I am ranked top 3 in the country at it, and already talk to coaches at Ivy League schools. I am just wondering if my grades are good enough for them to be able to use a recruiting spot on me.

Your grades are amazing. I think you are in a good spot academically. Your extracurriculars are good also. For Ivy League schools, I don’t know necessarily that coaches can help you get in. Other schools like Stanford usually do that.

Can you explain how a weighted 5.3971 is calculated?

the GPA scale is out of 6.0, but only advanced classes are weighted at 6.0. Regular classes are weighted at 5.0. 100 in AP class = 6.0, 100 in regulars class = 5.0. Highest possible GPA is theoretically around a 5.7 (valedictorian has a 5.59)
