Rate My Senior Year Schedule

So I’ve been having some trouble coming up with my schedule for next year (I’m currently a junior). I really want a course load that still leaves me with a decent amount of free time, but I want to make sure its still rigorous at the same time. I want to make sure my schedule doesn’t hurt my changes at top schools.

CURRENT-11th grade (just for comparison)
-AP Calculus AB
-Physics Honors
-AP US History
-American Lit Honors
-AP Spanish 5
-Student Government

I will provide a few choices here. Please tell me which one looks the strongest and doesn’t compromise all the hard work I’ve put in these past three years to maintain a 4.0 unweighted. I also really want to take five classes instead of six as I’ve done all of high school.

PROJECTED SCHEDULE

100% I’m going to take next year:
-AP Gov/AP Econ
-AP Comp Lit
-Student Government

Questionable (to take five classes I can pick two of these)
-AP Human Geography/International Relations
-AP Biology
-AP Stats
-AP Calculus BC
-(or I can take Statistics at the local Community College next year and take no math at high school)

I’m interested in Political Science/Government if that helps. I want to specialize and take the human geo over the biology because I’m more interested in that, but not will taking a science next year hurt my chances at top schools?

Thanks in advance and if this is confusing I can clarify.

imo I’d try to at least have 1 of each core class

You should have one of each core class except language (which you’re already done with). So far you already have social science and English, so you need a math and a science. Since you’re aiming for top schools, I’d go with AP Calculus BC (or AP Statistics at the very least) and AP Biology (or maybe AP Environmental Science if available). Also, 5 classes is a really light courseload (many seniors are still taking 6-7 classes), especially since you’ve never taken 7 classes. So I would recommend adding APHG as the 6th.

@goldenbear2020 I really want to take AP Human Geo, but I really want to take five classes at my high school. Do you think this schedule would still look challenging?

-Student Government
-AP Gov/AP Econ
-AP Comp Lit
-AP Human Geography
-AP Biology
-(Statistics at the local CC)

Does that look strong enough? I will be taking one of each core class, except the statistics won’t show up on my high school transcript because its too many credits for the high school to accept.

That would look fine…if APHG and the CC Stats class are full-year courses, but they’re typically only one semester each. What would you take the other semester?

@goldebear2020 APHG is full year at my school

@goldenbear2020 At my school APHG is a semester class that is taken with International Relations for the second semester. Would only one semester of CC Stats be acceptable?

I think you need another CC class besides Stats, since otherwise you only have 4 academic classes (Student Government isn’t a “real” class to colleges).
