Rate the science APs...

Which one is the hardest? Physics, chemistry or biology?
*WHICH ONES ARE MOST DOABLE WHEN TAKEN TOGETHER???
Which one should definitely be taken alone meaning without any other science AP?

AP Chem is by far the hardest.

So I shouldn’t double on sciences with AP chem? Can I double up with physics and bio? People said it was a weird combo…

AP Chem wasn’t too hard if you took Honors Chem first, but AP Bio killed me. AP Physics was easy too

So do you think taking AP chem and AP physics(without any prior physics courses but with honors chem) along with 3 other APs is doable for a hardworking, diligent student junior year?

^^Really? Personally I thought AP Bio wasn’t too bad…not a cakewalk, but decent. Never took Chem, but EVERYONE complains about the difficulty of it. May just be my school.

@rfm - Depends on the other APs. I would take Bio.

I think you can do Chem and Physics!

The other 3 APS are APUSH, language and composition and calculus AB

Is physics and bio a bad combo for senior year because I really want to take AP chemistry junior year and most advise me not to take another science with chem?

My friend took AP Physics & Chem together (along with Calc AB and Lang/Comp) and she did just fine (all A’s). If you are good at math, physics shouldn’t be too difficult for you - so I would recommend going for it, unless physics is notoriously difficult/“impossible” at your school.

Physics and Bio is a relatively weird combo because one is a life science and one is a physical science, and generally people are interested in one or the other, not both. So it’s fairly odd to see someone taking both but it’s not a bad combination. Taking both at the same time isn’t detrimental. So if you would rather wait for senior year to take physics, along with bio, you’ll be just fine.

To me, Biology is the worst out of them all. (Well, as a mathematician, I felt this way)

If you want to leave the hardest by itself, do that. If you’re doing maximum AP’s, the sciences (except Biology) feel like a break in a difficult schedule.

It isn’t odd to do Bio and Physics at my school the way it is set up with AP Chemistry most oftenly done in 10th leaving APES, Physics, and Bio left with people wanting to double up.

To be honest, it depends on your school. Many kids double up on AP Chem and Physics at my school because our teachers are pretty good and make the class easier for our students. In my opinion though, AP chemistry is the hardest AP class.

AP chem and AP physics are very easy.
AP bio is a killer.

From easiest to hardest:

Chem, Bio, Physics

Then again, I’m from a school where AP Physics has by far the worst rep out of any AP classes.

Hahah, so there’s your answer. Ask some upperclassmen how the teachers for chem, physics, and bio are! Each specific school is differrent.

And also keep in mind that you don’t have to cram as many APs as possible into your schedule…from what I heard, APUSH is annoying.

Thanks! I really appreciate your advice. I’ll ask older friends and base my decision on their feedback.

Take AP Chem by itself

This thread is kind of pointless, since different people tend to have strengths and weaknesses. So a kid may be good in biology and find AP Bio a breeze while struggling with AP Physics, while another kid may be good in physics and find AP Physics a breeze, while struggling with AP Bio. Comparing both courses is apples and oranges.

^ Yup.

OP, you can’t really get a solid answer because chemistry, biology and physics are on different playing fields in terms of the information. Personally, I don’t excel in any of the sciences, I just do well enough to pass. Some students have a really good math background and excel in physics and chemistry and very well understand the material. In my school all the science AP courses are difficult, but course rigor can differ in other schools.

It seems like you’re confused on which AP science course to take, and if that’s the problem, just choose a course that you think you’ll do well in or have strong interest for. Picking courses just because they’re easy is a big no no. My best advice for you is to talk to the teachers who teach those classes and go on from there.
