<p>My D is looking into college with 2 main focuses: Vocal Performance or Musical Theatre. She has almost a 5 octave range, and is only missing 4 lower Alto notes, which she is working on with her RCM voice teacher. </p>
<p>The question is if you need to sing Belt for admission in a Musical Theatre school, or if it will be taught there. Which do the schools prefer?</p>
<p>My daughter belted at schools where she thought it would be appreciated (where there’s a heavy contemporary emphasis) and didn’t belt where she thought it would be less appreciated (where there’s a strong music school presence). A few schools mention a request for belting in the audition info. She was accepted at schools both belting and not belting, and rejected at schools both belting and not belting, so read into that what you will! :)</p>
