Hey! So I visited WUSTL in October and absolutely fell in love with the feeling of the campus. I'm hoping the fact that I've visited/interviewed and also have a letter from someone on the admissions committee to the dean of admissions stating my interest and abilities will help get me in... I really love this school!

The fact that you really LOVE Wash U is a plus!!!! I hope you get in because most of the kids share your love for the school. So you will fit in!!!! Your stats look good to me, so what if Math isn't your thing! You have other strengths such as strong grades, SAT scores, and GPA. Also Wash U has a wonderful Spanish Department! Best wishes, and I hope you get that special acceptance letter!

If you have additional accomplishments you could send a brief supplemental essay/information to the admissions office and ask that it be included in your application file. Or you could elaborate on some aspect of your academic background and ECs that show a specific reason why you are a good fit for WashU and vice versa. For example, one of the big community service projects at WashU involves bringing students into St. Louis schools --- you could highlight what you've done in this area and mention how Washu's students' similar committment to the local community is one of the big attractions to you.

A reminder of why you're interested in Washu and why it's a good match for you can't hurt.

You sound perfect. Let us know what happens. I have one son a current student and one who graduated. Both fell in love with the school and both were right. Great place!

I think you have excellent chances with your scores and GPA...being jewish helps too especially at WashU.
Just curious...How did you get someone send a rec letter from admission commitee? Is she/he your relatives/friends?
I am asking this because I can ask someone that I know from faculty to write for my daughter.

Wow, you all are so helpful! This is by far the most helpful thread I've ever posted. Everyone's so friendly, sort of like WashU :) I hope you all are right! I'm so nervous/excited to find out, ahh.

Yeah, I believe it is the other way around: Wash U is popular with Jewish students. I cannot imagine Wash U spends any time trying to manage the religous balance. I do not think that info is even on the common app (could be wrong).

WashU is not specifically looking for jewish students. They are looking for students who are strong academically and have something to offer the school. WashU might be in the midwest, but it attracts students from all over the country and world. Wash U lands up matriculating similar percentages of Jews as many of the top tier schools. WashU has about 27% jews. For comparision, UPenn has 25%, Cornell 22%, Northwestern 25%, Harvard 25%, Yale 23%, Columbia 21%, Brown 20%.

I don't think you are going to find many top tier schools where being jewish is an admissions advantage. Because jews are already there in sizable proportions. The same thing goes for Asians these days.
