RD class of 2020

@rayrick I have not heard from Music too

Does anyone know a date for when scholarship decisions (that required an additional interview or audition) come out?

I was told the end of March for academic one’s, I’m not sure about music.

Sounds about the same as what I heard for music, @Katycollege16 --possibly a few days before the end of March.

anyone here applied to music major?

@happyfingers, my son did.

Buntrock decisions are out!

Hi guys, has anyone heard about when the financial aid come out?

We got our music scholarship info yesterday.

@rayrick congrats! Our D also got one, but St. Olaf COA is still working out to be the most expensive of her top choices (the ones we’ve heard back from). Pretty disappointed…they gave her both academic and music merit, but both were their “middling” awards and just don’t help enough…

@choirsandstages, that closely mirrors our experience. It’s still in the running at this point, but appreciably more expensive than his other top choices.

Choirs & rayrick–Any chance either or both of y’all (and anyone else feeling generous…) could post brief stats of scholarship recipients and $$ amount, please? Can’t seem to locate a current version of same anywhere on the boards. Many thanks in advance.

I’ll go for DD

$18k Presidential
ACT c34, m36, r35, e35, s32
Natl merit commended
9 AP exams, AP scholar with distinction
Captain science team, varsity scholastic bowl
Etc etc

For DS

18k Presidential
4.0 GPA UW
ACT 32c
Lots of leadership, sports and music
Recruited athlete
He will attend

For me

24k Buntrock
4.0 GPA UW
ACT 34c
Natl merit commended
The most difficult schedule possible at my school (my schedule was entirely AP and CIS classes junior and senior year except band)
3 varsity sports, strong music, NHS leadership, lots of community service and study abroad.
I also showed a lot of interest, staying overnight in the fall, interviewing with my admissions officer (who I really clicked with).
I haven’t committed but there is a 99% probability I will attend.

Thanks for your responses and congrats on some stellar stats! SOC will be lucky to have the people behind these numbers.

For my daughter:

Buntrock Scholar ($24,000)
ACT 34 (35 super-scored)
4.2 weighted GPA
9 APs by graduation
Tops in flute

Very impressed with St. Olaf, but she will attend the college down the hill (Carleton), which she felt is a better fit.

@MinnesotaDadof3 we are still agonizing here between Carleton and St. Olaf. What tipped her the other way? Carleton is 2x the cost of olaf for us.

@slachappy I’m not comfortable posting stats, but I will say her act is slightly above the median and her GPA is way above the median for St Olaf accepted students. She only did 4 AP courses. She has lots of impressive music ECs (imho). She received about $19,000 total scholarships (music + academic). She should’ve gotten a higher music scholarship (again, imho) but the fact that she couldn’t sing on audition day hurt her chances. Don’t think it’s likely she’ll go to St Olaf; she has better scholarships elsewhere.

@TytoAlba :

We would be tremendously happy for our DD to choose either St. Olaf or Carleton – you should be, too. So your costs might be your primary consideration.

Our daughter plans to major in Bio, Chem. or to double major, with an eye to med school. Both schools offer great sciences. She simply felt more at home at Carleton, and its students seemed a better and more collaborative fit for her. Also, she had the benefit of attending Carleton’s 3-week Summer Science institute during July/August. Although she seriously considered several colleges “Out East” as well, her heart kept bringing her back to Carleton.

With the need-based aid we received from Carleton, our costs next year for Carleton will be 60% more than our merit-based cost for St. Olaf. Hey – she’s our princess!!
