Accepted - Mixed feelings
CMC used to be my dream school. It was my all time favorite school and I was in love with it since junior year, but it’s not my favorite anymore. In fact, I don’t really think I want to attend this school at all anymore…
Their financial aid is so SO generous but I’m sorta iffy on attending CMC because CMC is racist according to many of the minorities that attend there. Also, the fratty culture here is also something that I wouldn’t be completely comfortable with. I’m a black female and I really just want to go to a school where I’ll feel safe and accepted.
However, my family is really pushing for me to attend CMC because of the financial aid they offered (After financial aid, CMC costs less than half that amount that my #1 dream school would cost) so CMC is probably where I’m going to end up.
@nineteeth123 i don’t think one can term an entire student body racist due to the actions of a few. and if less minorities enroll because of fears of racism, if it is true, it will become a self fulfilling prophecy. i know what you read about last year, a lot has changed since then. i would recommend you visit the college mid-session and let that first hand experience guide you.
@nineteeth123 can you go to admitted students day? If not, maybe reach out to the OBSA: http://www.cuc.claremont.edu/obsa/. Are you drawing your conclusions from personal contacts with current CMC students, or from media reports? I’m not trying to invalidate your concerns,but maybe a visit can help to clarify the situation.
for the waitlisted kids do we right a kind of deferral email? I am so confused guys please help
@nineteeth123 I understand your concern, but I hate to have you pass up a wonderful opportunity without doing your own due diligence. Why don’t you call admissions at CMC and tell them of your concerns. Ask them to give you an honest explanation of what happened, and ask them what steps have been taken to address this problem going forward. I wouldn’t want you to go somewhere that makes you uncomfortable, but I know that CMC is a fantastic option.
@Corinthian I visited last semester and this is where I drew my conclusions from. The majority of the stories I heard from minorities were negative ones. (One African-American girl straight up told me not to come to the school). I honestly did not know the school was like this until I actually visited the school. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that everyone is racist and the school is “bad”. I just feel like I wouldn’t fit in and I wouldn’t feel comfortable being around this type of culture and environment. Also, I’m not sure about OBSA because I heard that they cater mostly to to Pomona and Pitzer students and not really CMC students.

ACCEPTED! I got waitlisted to UCSD, UCLA, and rejected to Berkeley so this might be the best day of my life. I am 99% sure I am going to CMC unless Brown, Yale, and Cornell ILR pull through but LOL. Also accepted to Scripps and wait listed to Pomona.

Current CMC student here - would love to address some of your concerns. I am a minority myself and was present here during the protests. I must stress that I do not feel that CMC/the surrounding environment is racist in any sense. I have never felt any prejudice against me during my time here, and many of my friends agree with me. Please DM me if you want to discuss further! CMC/Claremont is really the best place to spend your next four years
When will I hear back about waitlist acceptance or rejection? CMC is my first choice right now and not sure when they will get back to me

CMC is my first choice too and I’m on the waitlist. They’ll call you if a spot opens up, but at this point it looks like they haven’t gotten enough spots to open up the waitlist. We’ll just have to keep waiting. After July you can stop waiting.
