RD Deadline extensions for major universities

Duke has extended its RD deadline to January 5 and UVA has extended to January 6th. D20 just got an email that Fordham has extended their deadline to January 13. This is our first year watching admissions this closely-- are deadline extensions common? I don’t remember seeing them before. Does anyone know of any other extensions?

Interesting. Duke has seen reduced applicants in their ED round, and it is UVA’s first year getting back to ED.
I was just talking to some friends about more kids doing EA/ED this cycle and getting acceptances/fewer are applying RD rounds. Wonder whether this could be one of the evidence?

There were a couple extensions last year but I don’t recall who, don’t think anyone to the level of Duke though.

I’m assuming it’s due to lower applications (also saw the Duke ED, apparently had something like over 10% fewer apps than previous year?) I am wondering if all this talk about the demographic wave cresting is starting to be seen in actual application numbers.

The Wall Street Journal has an article from last year saying that GWU, WUSTL, University of Chicago, and Oberlin extended their application times. (I couldn’t read it as it’s behind a paywall). https://www.wsj.com/articles/oberlin-university-of-chicago-and-other-elite-colleges-extend-application-deadlines-11548766801

It may be the demographic wave, it may be more applying ED, or it may also be kids being realistic after the brutal last few admissions seasons. My D22 watched absolutely amazing kids from our high school get deferred or denied from top schools. These kids had devoted their lives to doing “everything right” – taking dozens of APs, doing independent research with professors, taking leadership positions, staying up all night building their own apps, fretting about getting a 1570 vs a 1580, playing sports they hated… all deferred or denied. My D22, who has already won national awards, decided that the rat race of college admissions is ridiculous/ toxic, and her (great) state flagship was plenty fine for her.
