Congrats! I'm crossing my fingers that I might get one on Monday, but I don't think I will.

You should contact the Med School advisor in the Career Services office for accurate historical information. Your adcom can probably put you in touch with the right person. Wait 'til the acceptance letters have gone out so you adcom can get a good night's sleep, then e-mail him/her and explain that you need some help selling Swat to the 'rents.

I can't think of any college or university that would give you a better chance of med school acceptance than Swarthmore, although there are many schools that would be similarly strong. Possibly H, Y, P, or S -- although their pre-med programs are so large that the competition is probably fierce, fierce, fierce, so I don't know that the average pre-med ends up with better odds.

Here's a link to a survey of last year's graduates, with a partial list of what they are doing sorted by their major. There were not many MD's on this list, so I assume it was probably done fairly early, but I saw a UMich, a UVa, some U Penn's, a couple of Penn States, a U Rochester, etc.

BTW, when you look at Swat's med admissions stats, it includes every student who completes the pre-med program, not a culled list to make the stat look good.

AAAAAH! Just got my acceptance letter. Yay!!

Congratulations, Lindseylujh. You are going to have a lot of great choices.

Holler if you have any questions any of us 'rents might be able to answer about Swarthmore.

AHH! I got a letter from Swat, as well.

I was totally not expecting it at all. My SAT is sort of low for Swat (1400), but I suppose my recs and essays pulled me through :)

Swat isn't even one of my top choices. Oh, well. We shall see!

for everyone that's gotten in so far:
Can you post your stats and location?
I still haven't gotten a letter and I'm starting to get nervous :-

Don't worry about it, IoSon33! You might get it tomorrow...the mail can be weird sometimes.

I live in New York. I got a 1400 on my SAT (770V, 630M). Awesome essay (I think), awesome recs (as I'm told)...I didn't even have an interview. My school doesn't rank, but I'm somewhere within the top 20 of my class (out of almost 500 students). I'm the editor-in-chief of my school's paper, lots of other extra-curriculars, awards, etc.

Congrats to everyone else who got a letter!!! :)

I got a likely letter too. I live in MA. I like chiaroscura have low SATs (1390) for Swarthmore, but I have a killer essay (and I am not tooting my horn either), strong academics/AP scores/EC/academic awards in the local/state/regional level, I am a URM and Coca Cola Scholar for the Class of 2005.

I am also a finalist for the Robertson Scholars at UNC Chapel Hill and Duke.

You're more than welcome to check out my PR Stats profile (under the same name), but I don't feel like posting my stats anymore.

I didn't get a swarthmore letter but I got a bowdoin one.

Oh my God... I got in.
I can't believe it.

Lindsey congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happier days have arrived. That's fantastic. Have you gotten accepted other places as well? My S hasn't heard from anywhere yet :(

oh great you guys all got letters?? does that mean if you didn't get it by now you're more likely than not rejected?

Do you think they send out all the likely letters at the same time?

they probably send them out at the same time, but if you live farther away it'll probably take a couple extra days to get there..you can try calling if you're really anxious, just to get the wait over with..good luck!!
