Yes, I know. Almost all scores that are re-scored come back the same. I did read that, in a very small number of cases, the CB loses the writing portion of the exam and will just use the mult choice section to score the test. Even if that’s not the case with D21, that’s pretty insane. Taking the class all year and studying for hours and CB could lose a test? Would they not let the student know that happened?
D21 got a 3 on Euro and thinks it’s worth paying for the re-score. Her teacher both writes and grades AP Euro tests and she did well in the class so she knows what it takes to get high scores on the writing questions. She did think the MC was hard but thought she aced the writing. I think she should have a good gauge of how she did since they practiced for a whole year and her teacher knows how to grade. I know re-scoring is a long shot and most likely she got a 3 but it’s worth the $30 for peace of mind I guess.
@homerdog I was curious so I looked up the procedures and it appears that the CB only rescores the multiple choice, not the written free response. Don’t know if that changes your thinking or not about requesting the rescoring.
It must be very frustrating for your child when the outcome doesn’t correspond to the effort and results obtained over the course of the school year. If it will make her feel better to look into the matter, it’s only 30 bucks.

The $30 only rescores the MC. The FRQ score is set in stone; there are no rescores available. You could spend $10 more to get the FRQ booklet, but it will come back with no marks on it. The teacher can review it, but she has no raw score to compare it to, and regardless, it won;t be rescored. If the CB can’t find the booklet, as you said, they will just based the grade on the MC portion. If you want to spend the money for peace of mind, fine. But expect no change in score IME.
@mamaedefamilia yes I knew that. What seems to happen is you can (1) request a rescore if MC and (2) request a copy of the written part. people have found that, when they do both of those things, CB can’t find the written part and then have to admit that they scored the test just using the multiple choice. There is a very small chance of that happening but it does happen. In D21’s case, MC has always been the more difficult part for her and the written part always saved her score. Even if CB admits they lost the written part, though, they can’t do anything about it and the score stays if the re-scored MC is the same. I know it’s a real long shot but we will request both a re-score and a copy of the written part.
@skieurope I will wait to be mad but, if they lost the FRQ, I will be furious. Those kids worked so hard this year. That class took more time than all of her others put together. I understand nothing can be done even in this worst circumstance. Curious though. I can’t imagine her MC re-score could change but I’ve seen instances of that happening. So so rare though.
If we can get the booklet, that would be great. Considering her teacher helps write the AP tests, grade the AP tests, and actually travels around the country talking about the AP Euro test, it would be great for him to see it.
I had the same thing happen with me in the AP world history exam. I am currently paying for the rescore and the free response booklet and then I will talk to my teacher regarding my score. It is really a disappointment when your expectations are let down like that.
