Reach Target Safety Schools

Hi, I've started to get pretty nervous about the college application process, and I was hoping to get some opinions of some seasoned applicants. :D

I'm interested in : Stanford, UPenn, NYU, Chicago, Duke, UK, Centre, Emory, maybe Vanderbilt, maybe IU, and i'm up for any suggestions!

I'm interested in studying : Cognitive Psychology, Astronomy, Music Production, and open for ideas!

I have a ~4.25 weighted, 3.96 unweighted GPA, and after my senior year I will have finished 8 AP Classes. I have a 31 composite on my ACT, and a 2200 on my SAT.

I've played two varsity sports, tennis and golf. Tennis i've lettered 7 times, and am the captain. Also captain of the academic team.
I have probably around 80-100 hours of community service.
I'm president of the National Beta Club, vice-president of NHS, have been co-president of Spanish club, officer of Social Action Club, member of SGA and film.

Along with this i've gotten a few national and state awards and recognitions.
and i'm a vegetarian. :)

Thanks!

Edit: the real point of this post was to see if my upper-tier colleges are reach potential, or if they're impossible. and for any suggestions!

bump…
really would like some feedback.

the real point of this post was to see if my upper-tier colleges are reach potential, or if they’re impossible. and for any suggestions!

No, they (Stanford and UPenn) are not impossible and yes, they are reaches for everyone with Stanford being your highest reach. UChicago, Duke, Vandy, and Emory are very selective. I think you have good chances at Vandy and Emory and will be competitive in those applicant pools provided you did well on your SATII’s and AP tests. Since your SATI scores are higher, don’t use your ACT scores. Your athletic EC’s are solid however your other EC’s and CS hours are a little thin, which could hurt you at your top-tier schools. Your areas of study are certainly diverse and so are the schools that you are interested in and it would be hard to suggest schools without knowing a little more about youvand your, your college type preferences, and your financial requirements.

to update this then:

I’ve taken: AP World, APUSH and APGov, APPsych, APChem, AP Spanish and am taking APCalc, APEnglish Lang and Lit, and AP Spanish Lit
Although, not every score has been amazing…

For ECs, what else should I have? I felt like that would’ve been a strong point. Along with the aforementioned ECs, Im co-chair for an environmental task for in the city, work at local expos, play AAU basketball, teach myself piano, and run 20 miles a week. But the latter two or three things seem insignificant on an application. As for community service, does that really matter that much?

and, the upper-tier interest has a lot to do with need-blind admissions… I kind of need a low cost of attending school.

Thanks!

bumpity bump

bump.
leaning towards Emory right now.

What you call “insignificant on an application” would make excellent essay topics, by the way. Teaching yourself piano is kind of badass. Running 20 miles a week? Don’t underestimate yourself.

I’m not going to chance you (I don’t know enough about these schools to give an informed opinion), but you might like to include your class rank (if known) and if your high school is known as being rigorous or not.

Agreed with Greek, literally anything can be an essay topic as long as it’s something unique and personal to you. Write your heart out on that issue and if it moves them, then you have a really good chance of getting accepted.

I really believe that you’ll get accepted into every college you listed except Stanford and Penn. I’m not saying you can’t get in, because I think you have a good chance, but I’m not positive you’ll get in. Best of luck though :)

Appreciate your opinions!
Hoping for some more!
:D

oh and i’m ranked 7/281 and im taking the heaviest course load i can.
