I am strongly considering the MS Finance program at Vandy.

Does Vanderbilt have the notoriety to get someone into the more competitive positions in Miami or Los Angeles? How is the school perceived in these areas? How do undergraduate students fair when heading out to these two locales?

How is the alumni network in both of these cities (in terms of size and connectivity)? I notice that the alumni giving rate is about ~25%, which is well below the rate for similarly ranked undergraduate schools. Does this correlate to indifferent alumni?

Vanderbilt is a top-20 university. Alumni should have no trouble in these areas as Vanderbilt recognized nationally as well as internationally.

My concern is portability. There are a number of schools (Emory, Vandy, Rice, WUSTL, Penn) that do not seem to be well known once you get away from the region (not in academic circles obviously).

Anyone have some numbers of alumni in these cities and the events (gatherings, networking) that the chapters hold? Basically, I’m looking for alumni participation and how passionate graduates are.

Thanks
