I am giving the Oct 11 SAT and also have registered for the Nov 8 SAT. Reading is my poorest section. My vocabulary is rubbish, I am memorizing words now specially from the blue book and rocket hits. I have already taken sentence completion classes in my country which dealt with strategies such as connotation of the sentence and all. I did not read at all before, I only read scientific topics so I feel easier when the passage is related to science. I have been practicing passage reading and now get about 39-42 right out of 48 but some passages I don't understand at all. Maybe it is due to my poor vocabulary I don't even understand what the answers and questions mean sometimes.
Sentence completion is a mess and haven't practiced much, it's just that I have read some tips that memorizing vocab is not the right way and some which focus on memorizing vocabulary so I am a bit equivocal on this matter. Should I just start memorizing words hardcore and finish the rocket hits in 10-12 days? I score around 500-600 in CR is there any chance I can reach 700 by Nov if I work hard? What would you suggest me?

Don’t memorize words, read more.

Memorizing words is the hardest way to study because most of the words you study will not appear on an exam and it is boring. You can do it, but it is the last study strategy I would try.

This. Reading gets easier with practice. This is true for science. It is just as true for editorials, shakespeare, and everything else. I would focus on reading more. Wikipedia and the New York Times are good online resources with adult level English content. Unlike wordlists this is an interesting way to spend time. You will improve your reading and your mind at the same time. Win win.

Also I’d read on something that allows you to look up the definition of a word when you highlight it. This is a feature on the Kindle. You add it to Chrome with the “Google Dictionary” extension. This feature is great for vocabulary because you look up the definition of a word in the context of reading something you care about. This makes learning new vocabulary more fun and natural.

Study direct hits. That’s only list you need.

As for the rest, you need to go through your test afterwards and look at every question. You MUST understand why you got wrong/right. Notice wrong/right. Go over every single question and never put down an answer if you cannot back it up with evidence from the text. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I have started reading news in the huffington post, the new yorkers and the economist. But do you think I should carry this method out, looking at the time I have left? Yeah memorizing is indeed boring and not a good way but I am desperate. I will do both I guess. I will set apart time for both memorization and reading. Thanks once again.

Yeah I got the direct hits and will be using it. I will do my best and see how it goes. :)
