I'd prefer to go with Sam Zell who actually knows something about real estate. He's gearing up again.

does anyone know of any real estate specific job websites?

I know of selectleaders.com , they seem to have some quality real estate job positions on there. anything else?

You're not going to find many real estat jobs via internet searches. As mentioned previously, real estate is mainly word of mouth. You can go directly to company websites and try to make contact that way.

How hard is it to get into to do analyst work for a REIT
[/quote]

A REIT is a real estate company that is publicly listed. If you want to be an analyst for REITs, it means that you want to be a stock research analyst for the REIT group. These analysts are akin to the ones you see being interviewed on CNBC, they analyze REIT stocks and give buy/sell recommendations. They usually have a graduate or undergraduate degree in finance. They do not work for real estate companies.

What i'm trying to do is analyst work on investments, acquisitions or real estate developments.

People I know who are doing this type of work at Blackrock for example, went to a good business program (grad or undergrad) with an emphasis on real estate or finance.

Two companies have been recommended to me. One is Simon Property(SPG) and Federal Realty Investment Trust (FRT). They have large cash reserves unlike others like DDR and GGP.

There are analysts that analyze REIT stocks and those that work for the REIT sponsor who actually analyze real estate deals. The second is more of an actual RE analyst job and there are lots of them although I doubt they are hiring much now. ProLogis is a top publicly trade RE company and they had large staff cuts recently.

Here's a list of the largest REITs

According to data compiled from REIT third-quarter filings and analyzed by Commercial Real Estate Direct, seven REITs each face the maturity of $1 billion of debt next year. Macerich, which faced nearly $1 billion, has since the end of the third quarter lined up commitments to address all but $525 million of them.
