Real faculty: student ratio?

Hi, it seems that many universities boast Nobel Prize Laureates to attract students but in truth, the students end up getting taught by teaching assistants. So, to those who have already enrolled into universities, can you tell us whether the colleges really stay true to their promises? How many classes and which faculties are actually taught by trained professors and the same goes for classes taught by teaching assistants? Which universities are pretty much a waste of time since you end up studying books instead of getting taught?

I'll especially like to know about the following schools:
1. Yale
2. Princeton
3. Stanford
4. Cornell
5. John Hopkins
6. Amherst

Thanks.

For Princeton, all professors are required to teach undergraduate classes. The precepts will be taught by TAs sometimes, but lectures will always be with a professor.

Books and stacks of article readings ARE pretty much the heart of education. Profs only have time to hit some of the highlights in class.

UChicago has all classes taught by professors (maybe disco sections are led by grad students/TA's) as well as a 4:1 ratio which is one of the best (and I believe better than all of those on your list but I could be wrong).
