The colleges in question are…
Northwestern-High interest
University of Virginia(OOS)-High interest
Dartmouth
UCal-Berkley(OOS)
Stanford
University of Chicago
Wash U in SL-High interest
Vanderbilt
Carnegie Mellon

Dartmouth, Harvard, and Carnegie Mellon are reaches. UCal might be a reach.
It really depends on your gpa and courses for this year and next year.
I’d work on getting your gpa up as much as possible, although it’s not at all bad already.
If you are a junior, you should start getting ready for your SATs.
Other than that, I’d say you have pretty good chances at the other schools on your list.

All are reaches, Thats the way it goes with top 20 schools. U-Cal and Virginia are your best bets, but anything could happen. Your ECs are not only good, but also interesting which will help at the Ivies. Your hook should help you tremendously. If you mention your family incident and get up your ACT, I think you should be in the running for all, with the highest reaches being Harvard and Stanford. Certainly apply to a few safeties must to be sure. Good luck!

3.8 despite traumatic event + 33 ACT + Native American + Licensed pilot + state champion = all these schools are in contention.
HOWEVER they are “reaches for everyone”: it means that even if you’re competitive for these schools, your odds are basically 1 in 20 to 1 in 15.
You MUST find 2-5 matches (schools where you’re near/at bar for top 25% AND that admit 30+% applicants) and 2 safeties (schools where you’re well above the top 25% mark and admit 40+% applicants).
Dartmouth, Northwestern/ UChicago = you need to read up on these and learn about “fit”. Those are polar opposite. At highly selective schools, you really need to understand the school’s “personality” in order to stand a chance. Someone who’s a fit for D and NU wouldn’t be a fit for UChicago.
Berkeley OOS will be 55K, no FA - what’s your family’s budget?
