So right now I'm a junior and I was just wondering if I still have a shot at colleges such as Johns Hopkins? My GPA is kind of low and I scored an 1870 on the SAT in January 2011. I've been intermittently studying from January to mid-March, but since mid-March, I've been really hardcore studying (like at least 2 hours a day and more on weekends). So now the practice tests that I take score around the 2000 range. I'm taking my next SAT in June. So my question is, if I keep on studying my SATs, might I have a shot at colleges such as Johns Hopkins? Even with my GPA and somewhat disappointing ECs?

Also, kind of a side question. Out of all the AP classes that I've taken, I've only taken 1 AP exam which is for AP Statistics, and I scored a 2. I didn't take the other AP exams because my dad got me BCC cap (which is pretty much me getting college credit for the AP classes that I take and then applying them to any of the colleges in NJ, but obviously not for colleges like Princeton University). My family doesn't make too much money so that's why my dad wanted me to take BCC cap so that I would attend a college in NJ (which is more affordable) and also obtain credit for it. Though in mid-March of this year, I decided that I didn't want to go to somewhere like Rutgers because I want to achieve more. So my main question is... By not taking the AP exams (and also scoring a 2 on the AP Statistics exam), have I somewhat hurt my chances at getting into a good school?

Lastly, I volunteer at my church (at least over 150 hours done) and I'm going to volunteer at a local hospital sometime soon. Also I'm going to go under an "unoffical" medical internship this summer in India under Dr. Laxman Basani (supposedly he's well-known?). Anyways thank you for reading this, and I really appreciate your answers. :)

Also, I'm of Asian descent and my dad is on disability benefits and my mom is unemployed so my family doesn't make too much money. Not sure if that really means anything when it comes to admissions.
