My son is struggling with his SAT. He has been off his meds for a few years but this summer he asked to go back on . He stated he does feel an improvement in his focus while he is taking his summer class (pre-Cal). I wants to apply to school for Electrical engineering. He is in an Engineering academy at his hs and has been geared to his dream.
I don’t know if being back on meds will help him increase his score (fingers crossed) but are there any schools that would accept him with those scores right now with his ADHD issue? We are located in NJ and he would like a NE/Mid-Atlantic school
Thank you.
Clarkson in Potsdam NY would be a match with his current scores/GPA.
Rowan University where he would have in-state tuition could be a very likely option. I honestly believe that he will have many options with those stats. We have focused on smaller schools for my girls who have attention issues. We just don’t see them in large lecture halls with hundreds of students.
@Momof3kidz thank you. Rowan is on own list BUT he has done so much between band and engineering academy there that its a hard sell right now. We only live 10 minutes away from it. I’ve been pushing it lately because of cost and 2nd I know the music department would like him there too. He plans to continue in ensembles there.
We must live very close to each other! Rowan can at least be a financial safety. Drexel will be extremely expensive with his stats unless you qualify for financial aid but he will have other options if he is open minded.
Do you have access to Naviance? U of South Carolina has a great program. Elon has been expanding their engineering school and there are tons of others that should be an option.
I’d advise being very up front with your student about the budget. Applying to places you can’t afford is a recipe for disaster come spring.
My son has a lower GPA but same SAT. Here are some schools he has considered/is considering (though he’s interested in civil engineering):
-Catholic University
-Clarkson
-Hofstra
-Manhattan College
-University of Hartford
-NJIT
-UMaine (flagship match scholarship program; you’d pay the same as at Rutgers)
-UNH (New Hampshire)
-UNH (New Haven)
-Wentworth Institute
-Widener (great support program)
-UVM
RIT also has great support programs. Unfortunately for us they don’t offer civil.
@taverngirl Thank you. I’ve looked into a fee of these. Will be sharing with husband and son
