My family makes under 30K per year, and according to my financial aid letter today, I'm ineligible for need-based aid. Uhhh...what? My family has very modest assets as well... I guess I'll be calling to find out why this happened...

It must be an error. congratulations man. I hope i can get in after my deferral but if it ends up that they deferred most people like MIT did it doesnt look good for me

Probably an error. Call up the admissions office next week. My family makes $50k/year and the university gave me $40k/year. (This was three years ago, but the university’s aid packages have supposedly improved since then.)

Out of curiosity, where are you guys finding these finaid estimates? I know we sent out both the CSS profile and U of C’s supplement, but all I see when I log in is a decision letter and scholarship letter link.

No, it was complete. I’m thinking they found me “ineligible” because my dad is a partner in a real-estate company…but he makes no income from it, and the business is failing. He’s trying to get his name off everything. We are going to call next week and hopefully get it sorted out.

Sort of. They’ll ask you to send in any more additional documentation that might clarify your situation and then mail you a new estimate based on what you’ve given them. Speaking from personal experience, though, don’t expect much. They’re quite stingy with their money.

@oblivi0n & secretyk: Looking though another thread I saw this posted by ManyMoons,
so don’t worry if it takes a while for your aid packages to reach you.
