I'm a high school sophomore (I'm using my bro's account), I have an interesting path in mind.
I live in CA, and after sophomore year, I want to take chspe and leave my high school. After that I want to take only 1 year of community college, and go to a UC for two years, then go to a medical school. Can I do that? I will have 36 quarter credits for UC from AP, with one year of CC (overload) can I go to a UC? Will medical school accepts me like this? thanks!

You are basically discussing early college after two years of high school, then completing college in 3 years through a combination of community college and university.

I recommend against this path. Medical schools are preferring slightly older applicants, and most are doing another year after 4 year undergrad.

Your pre-med required classes do not look as competitive at a community college or split between different institutions. Can be done, but consider this plan:

Try to graduate HS with some dual enrollment credits (but not the med school pre-requisites like bio, chem, physics or biochemistry), get into a great university, and do pre-med there. You could get a combined masters/BA or BS in 4 or 5 years with the dual enrollment credit coming in, and would be a very strong med school applicant.

Apply to medical school from a position of strength. Do not rush it.

I completely agree with the above post.

But if you’re asking if it’s possible, yes it is. I actually knew someone in high school who tested out after two years, went directly to UCLA and graduated in two years (though he’s not pre-med). But again, there’s no reason to rush, there’s more room for mistakes if you go too quickly.

Also, I’m not sure that you’ll be able to have “good enough” ECs with only 2 years at a UC.

What you’re suggesting is not a wise path to med school. It won’t allow enough time to get to know profs for LORs, and not enough time to get ECs/shadowing…PLUS…a number of med schools will be concerned about maturity.

The UCs require you to have an AA to transfer from a CC.

besides, you’d have to take a glide year, otherwise you’d be applying after only one year at a UC…not wise.

I’m a 3rd yr med student. Knowing what I know now about HS, undergrad, and med school, in no way would I advocate cutting HS in half and UG in half in an effort to get to med school sooner. Beyond what others have correctly mentioned, you’re rushing through some important milestones so you can…work for the rest of your life a few years sooner?

I would guess that you are 15, think you’re sick of high school, think college sounds like a chore, and are excited at the possibility of med school. Maybe you’ve formed some opinions of med school/medicine based on pop culture, or maybe you have friends/family members involved with it. Regardless, rushing into medicine is not something that is recommended. It’s important to take the progression to becoming an MD seriously because it’s a very serious business–you are taking care of real people, who have real dreams/goals/families/finances etc, and you are making real decisions that impact their everyday life. It takes a long time to develop that knowledge and skills, and going through HS and UG is part of the process.

Enjoy sophomore year! Enjoy junior and senior years! Pick a great undergrad, develop meaningful experiences, and spend some time growing up and figuring out who you are. Before you know it, you’ll be a great med school applicant (or not–because you decide on something else) and en route to becoming an MD. Good luck!

so finish high school then bs/md program is even better?

It’s very difficult to get into a bs/md and I don’t know that it’s that worth it. I actually regret spending so much time on my bs/md apps. There’s nothing wrong with going the normal route, you’ll gain a lot of experience (both in life and medicine)!
