I like your list and I don’t think there is any reach that is completely impossible. Pitzer’s selectivity is tough, did you look at Scripps? You should have 3 UC’s on your list and maybe a couple of the better CSU’s. Then you will have some varying options and financial options come admission time.

If I remove Pepperdine, what would be a similar replacement?

I worry when parents say “don’t worry” but won’t discuss finances…

Unless you are pretty sure there is good solid money in the bank. Like $240K for your education at a private school. Are you attending private now?

Or unless they have already gone through college recently with a sib and know what to expect.

I’m at a public high school.

I strongly suggest you get one of your folks to sit down for 10 minutes and run through the net price calculators on the websites of two schools on your list…a local public and a private school. It takes 10 minutes, no supporting documents needed, like 15 easy peasy questions like are you in state…and then you will both have an idea if it’s “no worries.”

If your parent faints however you still have time to adjust.

I am more concerned for going to a school that is good in terms of education. What could replace Pepperdine?

Why are you looking to replace Pepperdine? Price? Religious aspect?

Similar schools to Pepperdine in terms of size, religious orientation, education quality and possibly price are Westmont and Azusa Pacific.

I really want to go somewhere in southern california like San diego. However, I think University of San Diego doesn’t have my major… Is kinesiology the same thing as an athletic training program? or sports science? etc etc?

Here is the wikipedia definition of kinesiology:

[Kinesiology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Kinesiology - Wikipedia)

Each college will have a description of their majors and what types of careers each major can lead to. You are correct that USD does not have anything in the area of your major. You might want to look at UCSD and SDSU.

Does that mean I should remove USD off my list? or should I just apply for the sake of seeing if I can get in… I finished the supplemental for it already.

And do different schools call “Kinesiology” different things? Like for example CLU has “exercise science”

You can look for yourself on USD’s list of offered majors, and you can call them. I certainly may be mistaken but I don’t see anything in the area of sports science or exercise science or anything close. Call the admissions office and ask.

Sounds like you really would like to go there but if they don’t offer your area of interest I wouldn’t waste the money or time applying.

What other privates are in that area?

It is very difficult to get into Pitzer as a California resident but would be possible with your stats if you were coming from a top
East coast school (they already have too many smart CA residents and need geographic diversity). Safety would also be U of the Redlands. Whitman College in Washington state is an excellent school and you would have a shot.

Then what would be a reach school for me private-wise? So far i have CLU, Chapman, LMU, Pepperdine (maybe), Pitzer (replace?), SCU, USD (Maybe), UOP… I am trying to stay on the west coast btw.

This is just for privates. I know i have UC and CSUs as well.

Whitman is a reach that you still have a shot at. Scripps would be in that category as well. (All female but part of the Claremont consortium). Pitzer would be a super high reach.

Match: Chapman, Pepperdine, LMU. Consider Lewis and Clark.

Safety: CLU (high safety/low match), UofP

Take off USD because it doesn’t have your major.

Don’t know about SCU.

What would be under reach schools? Other than Whitman, Scripps? I just want to have a decent list.

Also, for the Pepperdine prompt, it requires me to talk about Christian faith. Since I am not Christian, I don’t really know how to answer that prompt. Also, Pepperdine only has Sports Medicine… Not Exercise Science or Athletic Training. Should I still try to apply?

Take Pepperdine off the list.

Do you mean “other” reach schools? Why do you need more?

“Under” reach schools would be the matches. I think you have plenty, especially when you throw in UCs and CSUs.

Time to start paring down the list rather than adding more.

I mean… for my school I can apply to a maximum of 10. So I feel that if I do not apply to maybe 8, that I am not taking advantage of things… Maybe it’s wrong of me to think that way. I just rather have more options than less…

Should I take Pitzer off too? That would leave me at only 5.

Aren’t you applying to some UCs and CSUs? This would easily bring your total to 10.
