Reason of not hearing anything from summer interns?

I found out more info from out kid on internships. Apparently, he applied to several and was selected as one of finalists for interviews; and he ended up interviewing two times – and he got the position for this summer abroad internship position with a stipend paid by his college. Apparently, some interns don’t get paid by this abroad organization unless their colleges pay them stipends. He submitted applications in Feb 2019 and was notified around several weeks ago that he was selected as one of the finalists. I am more relieved he has something to do during summer. Ultimately, I believe it was his language skills – that was only area which we intentionally encouraged our kid to learn – that helped him get this position which is normally offered to upper class students because I am sure there were kids with better GPAs. Our kid told me during 2nd interview when he interviewed in another language, the interviewer started getting more and more impressed, and by end of interview, our kid felt like he had a very good shot at getting the internship position. The internship position description states “** language preferred but not mandatory.”
