Just wanted to post for those who were shocked at the amount (I was too), that this amount is including groceries, for a student with no meal plan, and as someone whose D also attends college in LA, groceries (and everything else) is really expensive there. I agree that starting with the college’s food plan amounts and adjusting downward is a good start. (My D uses her summer job or babysitting money for her entertainment expenses…but that’s our family choice).
Another idea is to start even lower with the expectation that you might have to adjust upward…managing grocery costs and food waste is a valuable skill.
