Reasonably Priced Summer Programs.

Ok. So I've convinced my mom that I really want to do a summer program at a college, yet am limited to under about $5,000. I either want to do two "cheaper" programs, or one more expensive one. Here's what I'm thinking about now:

Cornell University Summer College: One-week CALS Program ($1,600) [I REALLY want to do this one]

and possibly NSLC [National Student Leadership Conference], affiliated with American University (either $2,695 or $2,195, depending on course).

^I sort of feel indifferent about this one, not very well known, seems sketchy...lol

Any other ideas about programs with similar "price tags"? Thanks.

my gc told me that the nslc things aren't that great. colleges don't really care that you did them.

NSLC is weak its one of those that is a money trap and they make a big stink about getting college credit but that is only if you major in some specific field and attend american university, i dont know any one who has. I know a girl who did NSLC she lost her virginity there :-/. yea

Go for Cornell program it is good, looks good but is not a whole summer commitment.

Two people at my high school went to NSLC. It doesn't seem all that great.

......yea....i hv heard of the NSLC one....i think they sent application forms to almost everyone...(well they accept everyone who applies)...i would say try for one that is selective and at the same time, well known...so i think the cornell one is better...i got a letter in that mail today about a stanford 8 week program, which offers college credit...and it said that it was selective...but its also kinda pricy...give that a shot

The University of Chicago offers some reasonably priced 3-week summer programs. You get college credit, too.

The 2007 info should be up soon, but here's the website from last year:

Try for TASP!!! It's free!!! jumps up and down

-a past UTASPer

Wow thanks guys! I appreciate all of your insights.

I've saved a bunch of $$ these past two summers by doing programs that are actually "free" -- in fact, I got paid!
--I did an internship at a local university and helped out with research...sooo many places like politicians' offices, law offices, research labs and veterinary clinics are realllly glad to have interns...you may not get paid any money, but you get valuable experience, a fun/interesting time, something to put on your college resume, and a clean conscience for saving your parents a lot of money!!! They may not be at colleges, but they are definitely a lot of fun!
--Also look into TASP, the House/Senate page programs, and the Washington Workshops program
Good luck!!!
