reasons for less internationals at med schools

hey everyone!
I dunno where to ask this, so if the moderators think that its a question for elsewhere, feel free to move it!

basically what are the reasons that less international students are accepted to US medical schools? is it because medical schools dont give financial aid and most internationals cannot afford the school? or is there some other reason!
many thanks..

its because the medical schools and in particular the residency training programs receive money from the federal government so the schools specifically preferentially admit US citizens over internationals.

The aid thing adds another hurdle. At my school there is no FA for internationals and they must front the full 4 years’ cost into an escrow account.

Additionally public med schools are partially financed by individual states.

Our state invests close a $1M per student over the course of their education. (A sum that doesn’t come close to the amount that OOS/foreign student pay in tuition.) An international student is statistically unlikely to return and practice in the state, so why would the med school (whose primary mission is to educate doctors to meet the state’s needs) want to admit somebody who has no intention of practicing here.
