Just a warning for all you future seniors out there doing stupid things:

As the title of the message suggests, I was rescinded from Harvard this application cycle... I know this might sound farfetched, but it was for a 1 day suspension for "cyber bullying" (offensive internet trolling). It was somewhat unexpected because I thought rescission was for much more serious offenses such as failing classes or being a serious threat to other peers on campus, but yes indeed Harvard has a very strict behavior policy when it comes to social interactions between peers.

You were unlucky. One of the valedictorians in a city near Harvard who got arrested a couple of months ago while driving drunk seems to have escaped without anything from either the high school or Harvard. But he belonged to the “beautiful people” group.

There’s a guy at my school who was caught selling narcotics. He was later charged with a felony and had his trial a couple weeks ago. Don’t know what ended up happening, but I know that he was accepted to Dartmouth early and I don’t think he was rescinded. Seriously, this kid was all over the news. And still… That really sucks

^The thing is, I live a few towns over and have a friend who told me about an incident like this. The OP is in the same state as me. My friend told me where one of the kids was going, Harvard. She didn’t seem to think he would be rescinded, but I guess she was wrong.

Unless this is a totally unrelated case that just happened to sound exactly the same.

Well, H has rescinded for killing your mother; for plagiarizing material in articles written for the local paper; not for cursing H on facebook-that’s a hoax. It appears if it is a publicized case, they move fast to avoid any future embarrassment.

^It wasn’t for “cursing H on Facebook.” Where would you even reach that assumption? It had nothing to do with Harvard. I don’t think it was publicized because it was dealt with at school. There was no lawsuit.

There is a hoax claim going around that Harvard checks facebook postings and a student had admission rescinded because he was cursing about Harvard on facebook. I think the Crimson went to check it out and found that it was false but the claim has been going around for years now.
