I would give Davis an enormous edge for OFF-CAMPUS housing. as far as on-campus housing goes, I think both have their ups and downs. I only saw a few of the dorm buildings at davis, while i've eventually made rounds to all at cal. davis does have the new dining commons and dorm buildings, so i guess thats neat if you can get into them. if you're looking into greek life, berkeley's fraternity and sorority houses win by a landslide.

as far as dorm food, davis is pretty good, but clark kerr (where i live at cal) is pretty unbeatable in terms of cafeteria-ish food. off campus though, berkeley wins hands down.

Did you have any problem getting into Clark Kerr? I mean, if I put that down as my choice, would it be unlikely that I get it? (I'm not an athlete or anything special). Again, thanks!

Edited to add: I'm not a drinker and very anti-Greek... would that be a problem? Are the substance-free dorms limited to just one floor, or is it a whole hall?

Clark Kerr is very popular, so it truly depends on the luck of the draw.

Taken from berkeley.edu:

"Freeborn is a substance free dorm, and it attracts a more subdued crowd than other dorms. Athletes are given residence primarily at Clark Kerr for high-profile sports (football, basketball), Unit 3 for lesser-profile sports (tennis)."

I believe freeborn is an entire dorm hall, located in unit 1. I think its pretty quiet, but the people are generally nice. I'm a moderate drinker, and also Greek, so I wouldn't know the specifics about social life. However, no matter where you live, there is no pressure to drink or go greek; everyone understand that both are a personal choice.

i'd say visit both and see what you like. personally i really like both schools as well and am in a similar situation as you are (Well i would be if i got into berkeley but haven't found out yet) since money is not a big factor i would probably choose berkeley over davis. i really like davis's college-town feel however and if i was still planning to major in nutrition i would go there. tis cute.

Berkeley has a great nutritional science major. They have an accelerated program where you can get a nutritionist degree (the real, certified thing) in I think four years? You should ask someone who knows about the program. It's fairly intense, but the benefits can be huge if you're willing to work, or you can do the regular program, which is good as well.
