Rec Facilities at Case

I will be attending Case in the fall of 2005,and was curious, how are the recreational facilities? ie gym, pool stuff? I swim recreationally, and was hoping there was a decent/clean pool, and hopefully near the freshman dorms.

Thanks
Byron

There's treadmills and a few weight machines at Wade (which is in the middle of the freshman dorms). For a pool, you have to go over to Veale (on the south side of the engineering quad). There are two pools in Veale, both are very nice, and there are open swim hours every day.
You also have the option to take swimming as a gym class (and you're required to take a year of gym, so you might as well take something you enjoy for at least part of it). The Endurance Swimming is more designed for people that already swim, but if that doesn't fit into your schedule, you can take the Beginner/Intermediate class instead (the majority of the class just swam laps when I took it last fall).

While we're on that subject... Ctheflute, this first year gym class seems a bit weird in my mind. What kind of things can we take as a gym class?

if you go the the website below and type in PHED as the subject code, you can see all of the gym classes they offer. Most of the gym classes are half a semester (hence the first half, second half next to the titles)

Cardio Games is like a typical high school gym class and Personal Fitness is mostly running laps from what I've heard.
(I took Racquetball and Beg/Int swimming so far, you don't have to take the entire year your freshman year) When you go in to register for your classes during summer orientation (using the computer registration system) make sure that you sign up for your gym class first, because the good ones tend to fill up quickly. If you don't get one you want, check during the drop-add period to see if you can switch into a better class.
