Recent veteran looking at different engineering fields any help would be greatly appreciated!

Good afternoon! I just recently finished doing nine years in the Army as a wheeled vehicle mechanic and due to a back injury, can no longer continue in that field. I'm currently going through the voc rehab process, and it seems like the engineering field is what i'm leaning towards going back to school for. The three fields I'm looking at are petroleum, electrical, and mechanical engineering. If someone from one of these fields, or ideally one person from each of these fields could answer some of the questions I have, it would be greatly appreciated!

1) Describe your job duties.

2) Describe the physical demands of the job.

3) Describe the work environment.

4) What is required in terms of education/certifications and experience to be employed?

5) What do you like and dislike about your job? For what reasons might you have taken a different path?

6) What is the average starting salary and was it easy for you to find employment after school?

7) What do you think I could do to better prepare myself to be successful in this career? Is there anyone you could recommend for me to talk to who would help me further explore my interest in this career?

8) Who are the major employers?

Again, thank you for taking the time to help me with this very important decision. Any information you can provide will be instrumental in helping me make a decision. Have a great day!

I’m a vet who separated in 2010. I went back and got my petroleum engineering degree. I will answer your questions tomorrow. Where are you looking to go to school?
