That just makes me more depressed because I doubt that something that amazing would happen to me in the end.

Opposed to going to a school that has no deadline, that you prob. don’t even want to go to, I would take a gap year and do something cool/productive and re-apply and add some safeties. Good Luck :)

dreams- remember that everything happens for a reason. you dont have to live up to some type of standard in order to disprove the stereotype. the fact that you actually APPLIED to college and are going to ATTEND is enough right there. i think you should be proud of all of your efforts and find a school that will offer you a lot of aid (you are black ya know) and go there. if you don’t absolutely love the school you attend you can ALWAYS transfer. seriously i think everyone got the short end of the stick this year.

I guess I just feel like such a failure that I did not get into one school out of ten. I have been feeling so sad an emotional lately I am like always crying I just hope that I get into at least one of the five schools I just applied to.

dreams, the point is that the list of colleges you apply to needs to be crafted well. You know now – and I think this is a great thing to know – that you reached at least far enough, something many kids don’t do at all.

There are hundreds of ways to succeed in college. Hundreds of them, thousands of them, actually. Many kids (and/or their parents) define “success” WAY too narrowly. It’s NOT something that happens only at one of these (eight, ten, twelve, twenty) colleges. The world is WAY broader than that!

Be upset for now, but by noon tomorrow or so, start working out your new plan of action. Look into schools that still have openings, update the waitlist school with whatever new information you can provide, and see what else might be out there for you, because I know there’s more than one path for you! (There’s more than one path for everyone!)

thanks! I hope so. I think I may appeal my rejection for UCSB

Getting a GC call helps a lot. Yes, sometimes it takes for the GC to say, “accept this student, he is great. He got shut out, but trust me that he will be a good fit at your school. Next year, I will send more kids your way.”

I wish I took a year to travel and volunteer…

Colleges want well rounded students with international perspectives – your situation could be seen as a blessing in disguise…
take this time and do something truly beneficial :)

University of Arizona deadline isn’t until May 1. you can apply there

Your guidance councelor can help you a lot. Make sure you go and have a meeting with him/her and figure out your options.
Sometimes guidance councelors can also call other schools and say “Hey, I’ve got this great kid, but somehow he fell through the cracks. Here are his stats–they’re pretty good for your school.” Some schools will accept or at least consider you as a late applicant if you are a good candidate for their school. You might end up at a safety school, but you can get in.
Definitely have your GC call Syracuse first of all though and see what they say. If they don’t admit you, immediately start compiling and applying to some schools with rolling admissions. The more you delay, the less of a chance you’ll have, so keep that in mind.

Good luck!
