Recitation

I got my schedule and on some parts it says recitation. Is this something I need to attend?

... depends on the professor. I had one where you only had to go if you needed help but another kept track of who came and it counted as part of your grade. Quizzes were also given during this period.

Most of the recitations at UNL will have either homework turned in, quizzes given, or attendance taken. Math classes are certainly going to have homework. Plus, if you get a good TA, then you may learn more from reci than the actual lecture.

yeah you will take your quizzes there, as well as hand in homework and this is where you ask your TA's questions.

Some do take attendence and some dont, Recitations are small usually so the TA's will learn your names.

Should I attend?

yeah, you will most likely fail if ya dont.

at least go to the first one, you should be able to tell from there if you need to attend further ones (for example, the TA says he/she takes attendance, or that there are quizzes each week during recitation) and also the point of them is to go over the material in a smaller group where it will be easier to ask questions and have stuff explained.

Depends, but it's a good way to get clarifications, refreshers, specific info that the professor was unclear on (about upcoming tests, etc)...

:)

Wish I had recitation for Math instead of Sociology.

Are you taking Math 104 or 106 - I know 106 has reci.

Oh I just realized you only have a 3 hour math class, so it must be 104...

There are Soc 101 sections that don't have a reci attached. But if they do have a reci, they are more likely to be taught by a professor, rather than a Grad Student. Try using eNroll to see what other sections are available.

I have a recitiation next year for Chemistry...I'm definitely going to be taking advantage of that...
