Recognition 2010

DS said receive info about cadets not being recognized due to poor grades? Is this true?

No. There are always rumors about this kind of thing, but as long as your son isn’t the worst cadet at the Academy, he’ll be recognized.

Thanks for the response.

Recognition has NOTHING to do with academics.
If they are doing TERRIBLE (and I mean TERRIBLE) at their military duties, then there is a slight possibility of non-recognition.

Lots of squads are happy they’re letting 4*'s fail recognition this year with this new Recognition Probation program. I seriously think my squad isn’t going to recognize a kid after a few things he said to his classmates.

You can fail Recognition, but it has nothing to do with academics.
As long as you put out, you’re going to be Recognized, from what I hear. You have to fail knowlege and 2 of 4 PT courses, and your chain of command has to reccommend you not to be Recognized.
Work hard and it shouldn’t be a problem. I’ll let you know in about 13 days…

My cadet there was at a special meeting tonight in the squad and some 4 digs are being told they won’t be recognized…is this a pull your chain type thing?

my cadet said there was a special meeting … sorry about the typos.

It looks like they’ve actually implemented some criteria by which you can fail Recognition this year, which is a great move in my opinion. Don’t ask me exactly what those criteria are, though - I don’t have the MFR on hand. I’m sure someone else could probably chime in here.

not a joke for most people… if the upperclassmen took the time to get everyone together for a meeting it must have been serious

Here’s my understanding of the Recognition Probation Program:

There are two halves to recognition, a subjective and objective portion. The objective portion is comprised of grades on the stand up, courses, SAMI, PAI, etc. If you get low enough grades in any section, you fail that section. If you fail any section, you fail the objective portion.

The other half is all subjective based on the perceived performance by upperclassmen. If you element leader, flight commander, and squadron commander all sign off that you failed, you failed the subjective portion.

If you fail both halves of recognition, it goes up to your AOC. If your AOC approves your failure (I guess he or she can intervene on one’s behalf if they know about extenuating circumstances), then you get put on a Recognition Probation program.

The actual details of RecPro, I honestly don’t know. I’m assuming you’ll still be at attention in the squadron and I’m sure have other duties, but I’d be guessing if I said anything. Hopefully these details won’t be needed for anyone. Apparently, though, if you don’t do well enough on RecPro, you get put on CAP and are in a whole bunch of trouble.

So yes, they’re making an official process by which you can “fail” Recognition this year. But it looks like there’s an incredible amount of red tape and will take a lot of work if you want to actually fail someone. That being said, my squadron has already made it very clear several people (no offense, but mostly IC’s) are in significant danger of not being recognized (a freshman alcohol hit and freshman toleration hit in the last two weeks probably don’t help their cause either.)

But hey, I suppose that’s life.

Anyways, thanks for all the help over the last few years everyone. See ya’ on the other side.

for the most part that is correct. However, that is also to fail recognition from the wing’s perspective. it is also allowed (and encouraged) for squadron’s to have their own criteria to pass/fail cadets. While they may get recognized at the wing level, the squadron does not have to recognize them. so they will still be in the halls at attention, greeting upperclassmen and classmates, doing k-tests, etc. Our squadron leadership sat down and determined our criteria last week.

Well, here’s interesting add on here before I leave.

Those IC’s I mentioned before got caught wearing backpacks in the air gardens TODAY. Oh boy…gonna be an interesting weekend.

Unbelievable. I’m always shocked to see how many people just don’t get it, even this late in the game. I’m sure they’re having fun now, though…

Webguy is posting pictures and videos of Recognition.

It’s all over. The four digs are waltzing around in civies and having a good time. I was impressed overall. Bravo zulu, '13.

Yeah, the Recognition Probation thing was scaring a lot of four degrees this year (I know - I was one of them!) but, as far as I know, very few people were actually placed on probation. Additionally, from what we were told, you basically remain at attention in the squadron, have monthly meetings with your AOC/AMT and do a squadron beautification project. I think all in all it was/is supposed to last like…until after the UCI in April.

Again, very few people are on it - I actually don’t even know of anyone who is on probation.

And thanks for all the best wishes from everyone - we finally made it! :)
