I am planning to get a recommendation from a teacher who left my high school at the end of the past year. He now teaches at another high school a short distance away. He says he has no problem doing recommendations for students he taught at my school. Is there any reason that it would be a problem getting a recommendation from a teacher no longer teacher at my high school?

I doubt it. As long as he has taught you in the specific year the college asks for (most want 11 or 12 grade teachers) then you're fine.

he was still your academic teacher, so you will still fulfill that requirement.

I had a rec from an English teacher who retired after my junior year. I had her for two years and also worked for her as a puppy-care person. As long as you had them as a teacher, and they know you well, it shouldn't be a problem that they are no longer there.
